The Council received the following from the Izaak Walton League of America’s Des Moines chapter:

Perry Beeman has been writing about environmental concerns for the Des Moines Register for 31 years. His deep concern over bacteria at our beaches resulted in the DNR testing for e-coli bacteria at our beaches around Iowa. He is past president of the the Society of Environmental Journalists.

Beeman was nominated for the Reis Tuttle Communications Award for Conservation and Natural Resources Writing and Journalism by Gene Kragenbrink, past president of the Des Moines Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and past president of the Iowa Chapter of the IWLA. In his nomination, Kragenbrink wrote, “I think it would be entirely appropriate for Mr. Beeman to be the recipient of the proposed award. His work follows in the footsteps of Ries Tuttle, who for many years was the outdoor editor at The Register, and who was of course a long-time league (Izaak Walton League) member and leader.”
