Online registration is now open for one of the Council’s biggest events of the year, our annual conference, featuring keynote speaker L. Hunter Lovins, a globally recognized leader in sustainable business consulting, October 4 in Des Moines.
You can now visit the Council’s website to see a preview agenda for the event, Finding Iowa’s Way: Economic Solutions for a Healthier Environment. Early registration is open now, and if you sign up to attend by August 31, you can save $15 off the regular price.
In her new book, The Way Out: Kick-starting Capitalism to Save Our Economic Ass, Hunter Lovins makes the case that solving the current climate crisis and creating the jobs and economic opportunities our country needs are really two problems with one solution.
The conference will consider at the impact of this idea in Iowa. Recently, members of Iowa’s environmental community gathered to shine a light on the thousands of jobs our state could create by shifting to cleaner energy sources. Businesses around the state are implementing sustainable practices and reaping the benefits–and the potential exists to do much more.
In the afternoon, we’ll look at ways Hunter Lovins’ message applies to our state’s whole landscape. Iowans are hard at work developing economically viable practices–on the farm and off–that strengthen “ecosystem services”–like water filtration, flood control, and wildlife habitat–that benefit all of us. We’ll take a close look at these ideas and see how environmental stewardship is good for business and society at large.
As always, our conference also brings great networking opportunities. You’ll spend a day with others from all over the state who are truly excited about clean air and water, a healthy landscape, and a bright future for Iowa.
